After a long winter many people look ahead to the return of baseball. Even though TV gets huge ratings from the sport, some argue that radio is the best medium for the game. That was the only electronic media when one of the all-time greats started his career. Bob Feller was born in Van Meter, Iowa, and was spotted by a scout for the Cleveland Indians. He was just 17 when he threw his first pitch as a pro and had yet to finish high school. Feller was the LeBron James of his day, and when he did get his diploma, it was covered by network radio. After a stellar career with too many stats and records to cover here, Feller decided to try his hand at broadcasting and for a time had a syndicated radio show. Give a listen to the guy known as “rapid Robert”.
