Over the years, 1100 on the AM radio dial has had a number of formats and call letters, but from 1956 to 1965 Cleveland shared programming on KYW-AM with a good part of the United States and Canada. The 50,000 watt blowtorch had a deep bench of talent including Martin & Howard, Jerry G. Bishop, Jim Runyon and many more. While the history of KYW is far too lengthy to include here, renowned radio historian and author Dr. Richard Klein with the Northeast Ohio Broadcast Archive(s) has compiled a comprehensive book about the station that is available to download free at: pressbooks.ulib.csuohio.edu/kyw-radio-cleveland
We also encourage you to get a hard copy of this very ambitious project that includes rare photograph as well as exclusive content about the station that helped define Greater Cleveland’s Top 40 sound.
