ANNOUNCING THE 4TH ANNUAL FRED MCLEOD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP WITH THE CLEVELAND ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS

Bally Sports Ohio Great Lakes is pleased to offer the Cleveland Association of Broadcasters 4th Annual Fred McLeod Memorial Scholarship.

In honor of the legendary Cleveland broadcaster Fred McLeod, the Cleveland Association of Broadcasters (CAB), on behalf of Bally Sports Ohio Great Lakes, will award one (1) scholarship in the amount of $2,016 for applicants of 4-year undergraduate or graduate institutions or applicants of 2-year and recognized certificate institutions. Emphasis on Sports Broadcasting and Sports Marketing is not required but will be heavily weighted for consideration by the CAB scholarship committee. This scholarship is non-renewable and the application deadline is Sunday, May 5th, 2024.

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE 2024 FRED MCLEOD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time student (sophomore or junior standing) in a four-year institution or part time/full time student in a graduate program or in a 2-year or recognized certificate institution (as of Fall 2023)

  • Have a declared major in communications, journalism, media, sports marketing, advertising, broadcasting or a related field

  • Be in good academic standing and possess a 3.0 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale)

  • Home residence in the Cleveland/Akron/Canton area*

  • Demonstrate extracurricular involvement and/or practical field experience. (An emphasis on sports is a plus)

  • Include a written recommendation from a faculty member

  • Provide a type-written essay of no more than 250 words on “The responsibilities of Broadcasters in the era of Artificial Intelligence in 2024 and beyond.”

PAM GODFREY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP INFO

Pam Godfrey Memorial ScholarshipThe Cleveland Association of Broadcasters is pleased to  announce the Pam Godfrey Memorial Scholarship has returned for 2024!

Pam had a long history in broadcasting, working in TV and Radio in Cleveland and the Florida Keys including:

In Cleveland:

  • WLTF FM 106.5
  • WMJI FM 105.7
  • WUAB/WOIO TV 43/19
  • WJW- TV 8

In Florida:

  • WKEZ FM 96.9
  • MIX FM 96.9/94.3/93.7

Pam’s professional resume includes being a station manager, on-air talent, morning show producer and host, music and research director.

She wrote show content, produced news segments, programmed music, created copy, sold air-time, scheduled commercials and produced live events.

For over 35+ years she worked in broadcasting in one form or another and could never ever think about being in any other industry. She truly loved what she did, whatever it was as long as it was somehow in broadcasting.

Unfortunately, she passed away suddenly in October 2021.

She was a great friend to many and will be truly missed and would be very, very happy to know that although not with us, she is providing an opportunity for others like her that have a passion and want to be a part of the professional industry and have the chance to do what she loved and the same fulfilling experience that she did.

For 2024, the Cleveland Association of Broadcasters will award One (1) Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 for applicants of 4-year undergraduate or graduate institutions and One (1) $1,000 Scholarship for applicants of 2-year and recognized certificate institutions. These scholarships rea non-renewable .

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE 2023 PAM GODFREY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Cleveland Association of Broadcasters (CAB) administers and awards The Pam Godfrey Memorial Scholarship to qualifying students. For 2023, the Cleveland Association of Broadcasters will award One (1) Scholarships in the amount of $2,000 for applicants of 4-year undergraduate or graduate institutions with a focus in Audio, One (1) $2,000 Scholarship for applicants of 4-year undergraduate or graduate institutions with a focus in Television and One (1) $1,000 Scholarship for applicants of 2-year and recognized certificate institutions. These Scholarships are non-renewable.

Applicants must:

APPLICATION PROCESS

Your completed application packet must be returned online to the CAB by Sunday, May 5th, 2024. A completed application packet includes: this application form, one letter of recommendation from a faculty member at your institution, and the required essay. The recommendation should be from a faculty member who is familiar with your character, achievements and commitment to furthering your education as stipulated in the section on eligibility. You must sign the application, providing permission for the registrar from your institution to release information on your grade point average to the CAB.
